The members of Creedence Clearwater Revival John Fogerty (lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter), Tom Fogerty (rhythm guitarist), Stu Cook (bassist), and Doug Clifford (drummer). The message and musical production were primarily led by John Fogerty, as his hits were the most successful that helped them reach the top of the charts to become a household name. Although the band members were from San Francisco, they preferred to make Southern Style Rock Music. They had many popular hits while the band was still together, ranging from many different topics and styles of songs.
Fortunate Son is one of their most iconic songs and possibly one of the most iconic songs from the entire rock era. It was released in 1969 and peaked at #3 on the Billboards top charts. The song is a direct criticism of both the National Draft for the Vietnam War and The war itself. Their criticisms derived from fact that there was an ability to avoid the draft by paying a fee. They saw this societal elitism and decided to display the horrible inequality. This song was very successful in addressing its issues. It became a national anthem of protest against the war that reached #3 on the top music charts. It was able to reach a massive national and even international audience to broadcast a message against violence and elitism.
